POLICE MUSEUM/ COLLEGE

Displaying Ryan Bike.JPG
On Thursday the 2nd group went to the Police Museum, it was very cool to see some forensic science and to do some our self. Wai was the Tour guide for the Museum and she showed us the old Police Uniforms, Forensic science and we did a quiz as though we were the crime investigators.

We got to put on the Old Police Uniforms, put on the hats and we got to put on the bullet proof vests. It was very heavy but the Police Officers would get used to wearing it from there fitness level. After the Photos and the quiz we got to do some Forensic fingerprints my fingerprints had a shape of a Loop and a Arch.

At last There was an old Police Motorbike, it got to a speed of 180 km an hour. It was and old Yamaha with a big wind shield to stop the bugs, the rain, and the wind hitting into the rider. It was a very big and bulky Motorbike so it would of been hard to ride.

EOTC WEDNESDAY 2

Displaying girls bivvie.JPG

On Wednesday the 2nd group went to Somes Island/Matua Island. We went on a boat that took us about 15-20 minutes to get to and from the Island. Once we got onto the boat most of us went up to the top of the boat. It was windy and very wavy but it didn't really make a difference. The boat cruised at 15-17km an hour, it felt slow. Sitting next to the window with John and Taine was cool, Next we saw big waves splashing up beside the windows WOWWW.

Once we got to the Island we got a briefing about the Island what and not to do. There were Lizards, there were wetas and much more. The Animals and the Insects were very ugly, ‘’I would not go near any of them!’’ We slowly started our walk and once we climbed 150 meters up, we had our lunch. After lunch we kept walking and looked at the white house, A mini Doc hut with a little book and pens in it for people to write in it. There also was an old farming shed, it looked like it was housed with Zombies. After the walk we all made bivouacs, the boys got 11 boys in their hut and the girls got 12.

EOTC DAY 2

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP the buzzer goes as the parliament security guards check to make sure I am bringing nothing bad into the building. I also walked through the security detectors and I was clear. The guards were standing in one straight posture and watched every movement we made. The guards were everywhere I looked but we didn’t do anything wrong. The parliament was full of history and past tense of who were MPs and other people to do with parliament. It was and still is such a serious place for Prime Ministers and to do with New Zealand.

The Parliament is such a big building, it has 4 separate buildings around it and the Beehive has 9 stories high and John Key works in the 8th story. There were a lot of different MPs and a lot of different people that worked in parliament past the years. After we did all of the history things we went underneath the building and saw some things to do with earthquakes. When the earthquake happened in Wellington, Parliament got a bit destroyed. They put rubber slats underneath the building and that means when there are earthquakes it reduces the damage of the concrete. Also the building will just sway not rock.

EOTC WELLINGTON.

EOTC WELLINGTON.
Walking in silence the St Mary’s students went and watched a 3D animation movie about Nature. We all put on 3D glasses, as we saw fish, squid, and seals coming close into our eyes. Every 5 seconds, people went “wowwww”, because of the animations coming to life. People put their hands out, and even tried to pick them up but no, it was the glasses that made the animation. It made me feel like I was doing it in real life. The movie went on for about 5 minutes and was about what happens in the sea.
There were fishes eating other fish,  there were sharks eating fish, squid eating fish and seals swimming away from other types of sea animals, being scared. The St Mary’s students concentrated as they applied themself to the movie. The animation was so exhilarating and so powerful that the students didn’t want to leave the cinema. We all walked out and scrunched our glasses into the the cardboard box everyone had a sigh.

Free Writing.

Flying in the sunset in my Piper Super Cub is a beautiful feeling. No wind except the sun, the clouds, the trees and the ground. Time was going slow, until I got to 2500 ft high and did a satisfying flight. Looking left, right, straight ahead and behind there was a sunset like a cigarette being pushed through the sky . The end was coming quickly and I needed to do my landing check list. 50 ft came to my altimeter, I started to cut the power and I slow down. 5 seconds later I succeeded my perfect three pointer landing.

I choose this image because I am interested in flying and like to fly at sunset.

I liked my writing because I described my image well because I am interested in planes.

Leadership Conference

At the Leadership Conference we listened to four speakers. My favourite speaker was Head boy Joe, from HBHS because he was very inspiring and he had a lot of quotes. One of his quotes was ‘’I'm alive, alert, awake and enthusiastic.’’ So he said every morning you wake up say to yourself that you are going to have a good day. He made me feels positive about myself for  leadership roles when I'm older.

Dalton's Writing.

The large wings make it soar freely in the air, the propellers make it go faster and roar. The elevators on the back of the plane help the plane go up and down. The windows let the passengers see the great view which means they can see the houses we they go up. The pilots have to see where they are going. The gear/wheels let it land and takeoff properly.
The plane flies through the big white cotton ball’s as though it was a bird.

My buddy, Dalton aged 7, and I have created a descriptive piece of writing. Based on the picture he chose.

SACRAMENT STRAND.

“As A Young Christian Person I Live A Christian Way Of
Life By.......”

Going to Church.

  • Donating things to our community.
  • Treating others as you would like to be treated.
  • Helping the community.
  • Helping the elderly.
  • Becoming a Christian.
  • Standing up to bullies.
  • Helping you friends.
Commitment to Christian life means, to live like God, to be a donating person, Being part of the Christian Church also helping the elderly and being part of the Christian community. I am committed to a Christian life by going to a Church/Mass and also going to my Catholic school. Being part of the Catholic community and school is good because you are showing God respect and living like Jesus Christ.

Descriptive Writing

This term we are writing descriptive pieces. We are using Figurative language. Here is an example from an image I chose.

As the scattered cub was in the grasping African hot summer. Waiting for a sizzle in the long brown grass as though it was going to catch fire. Suddenly sizzling under the green tree, as the Cheetah Cub jumped at the snake and got blood splattered onto its mouth.

Proportions and Ratios.

This maths was cool because thinking and learning about Ratios and Proportions was a another good way to learn about other maths problems.

For this poster I had to do some commitment photos and I had to describe ''as a young Christian life'' I do all these things to be committed to Jesus Christ. And I do all the this to stand up to people and to do good things in the Christian life.

TAC's CROSS COUNTRY

As we walked around the crazy farm cross country track. It was tall with 50 meter hill’s and sheep poo everywhere. Sharp prickles with sticks and long grass everywhere. We finished walking around the hard course and watched the races until our hard race was ready to start. The year 8 kids walked down to the start line and got ready to start the true cross country course. We were all nervous and then we heard a big BANG! We all ran!

The year 8’s ran fast and the St Mary’s kids were at the back of the pack, we started to run in a group. I started to run ahead of the St Mary’s kids so I could be the first St Mary’s kid. My first hill was ahead! I ran up the steep hill as my legs BURNED so I started to walk. I happily got around the track, for my last lap. I sprinted my heart of and got 14 th place out of about 25 kids. Thankfully I could rest and get a juice and go home. It was a good day with my school and the St Mary’s kids did really well.

GLIDING

GLIDING
The Aerodrome was usual enough; it had
aircrafts, gliders and helicopters waiting on the tarmac.
My instructor and I were waiting to do, our
Checks, Put the parachutes on, Briefing on the flight.
Waiting for the launching batten to get waved.
Waiting for the Citabria to take off.
Whistling up in the air.
Gliding behind the tow plane.
Letting go.
Soaring.
Doing nothing important at all.

RECOUNT. AN EXCITING MOMENT, FIRST GLIDER FLIGHT

We are learning to-
Recount an exciting event so that our reader knows what happened and how we felt.

We hopped into a small claustrophobic place with plastic glass surrounding us.

I got my parachute on for a weird reason and I did not know why we were getting them on. It felt like there was a big back pack on me but no. It was a safety restriction also it was for me to get comfortable. We got on to a long grass strip and I heard this loud engine coming for me. It was a yellow and blue thing so I started to get really nervous. The thing I was in was really hot and I was scared. The person I was with said, “don't worry and be happy because nothing will happen.”

We were off! The Glider slowly flew off the ground and it was amazing. All you could hear was a quiet whistle and we finally let go of the tow plane. I got to fly the glider and it was so sensitive.

Next we got ready to land and it was so cool because you could see the bright sunlight shining and the mist from the sea. There was cloud and trees surrounding us from underneath. But the shining cloud was above us about 300ft high so we were not in it. Once we landed the instructor said to me.’’Would you like to join’’?

Since then I have been going out to the Hastings Aerodrome every Sunday learning how to be a pilot. The experience from the glider flight made me wonder what it would be like to be a pilot so I had taken it on. It had made me want to fly for a career and also I have wanted to know what it would be like to fly a whistling plane.

My science fair project

What I enjoyed- I enjoyed doing my science fair project because I never knew that swollowing a battery is bad?
What I learnt- I learnt that if you swallow a button battery than you shouldn't vomit or drink liquid because the saliva and liquid atracts, burning to the throat.
What I would do next time- Next time I would put more graphs to show more information. That would mean that there wouldn't be as much writing because it would be shown on the graphs. But overall I'm proud of what I have achieved.

My First Day at School

When my mum and me walked down the flash street we saw the red school ahead of us. When I walked into the entrance of the school I started to shake and cry. My mum said to me that it will be all right and don’t worry about it. So I listened to her and I saw some kids and they came up to me and said “hi”. That was good because that means they would probably look after me. When I knew what class I was in we walked towards it and my mum said goodbye and left.

Before my mum left we saw lots of different faces and I did not know any of them. My first teacher was Mrs. Skelton she was very nice but sometimes she could be angry. Like any teacher but altogether she was good. I was in her room for about 2 terms, which wasn’t long. After that I went year 1 because when you start school it is called new entrance. For the first week of school I was really sad. I cried every time when my mum left to drop me off.

My Holiday

In the holidays I went out to Bridge Pa Aerodrome for gliding it made me feel happy because I could just see plane which makes me happy. It was a very windy day. When I got the gliders ready with the other people out there they said to me, “do you want to go up today?”. When they said that I was really happy but I said no because it was to windy for me but then later on in the day another person asked me so I said yes. We got the glider ready for take-off and checked everything was ok and it was. Once we got into the glider we had to put on our parachutes but nothing ever happens really. When we strapped ourselves in I was really scared but it was alright. Then we had to do our cockpit checks and there is a lot to learn but it will be easy once I get the hang of it.

We turned everything on except for the motor because gliders don't have any engines, the engine is the wind and the ability of the pilot. Once we got ready we buzzed the tow plane which is a Cessna 152 which has two seats and is a single engine aircraft. He said “roger that take-off, lets go”. We got around 40-65 knots ( 80-130 km)  that is the speed we took off at. Once we got in the air it was really bumpy. That is not nice  it feels so yuk but I have to get over that if I want to be a pilot. We got to around 2700 ft which is pretty high we let go of the tow plane and I said to the pilot, “lets go land it is too bumpy for me”. So we come into land and there was lots of crosswind and that made us go sideways but we still landed. We got a max 3G forces in the air which means negative G forces which means you go down and that feels like you are going to come out of your seat, but you don't, it was really fun but next time I want to go up on a smooth day.

Why I like this piece of writing / I like it because it has flying in it and its telling the reader what I like and it is describing what I do at the aerodrome.

What to improve / Next time I need to have a little bit more information.

The Sick Lion

This is about a lion that is sick and he dies. The lion was helpless and a big boar came along to help. They were both helpless too , and the lion kicked his heels and that was a double death. The lion felt safe from danger and was better.

The New Zealand Navy Band

The New Zealand Navy Band

I jumped onto the bus and it was cool but really loud when I hoped off the bus I had a headache. When we got over to Napier we jumped out of the bus and we had to line up. When we did that we went in and got a seat and it was so fun. The Navy Band was really cool and they were dressed in white so you wouldn't want the suits to get DIRTY. It would have taken ages to learn how to play on their instruments that fast. When they finished they gave some C.D’s out to the kids that participated on the stage. They showed us the drums and how good they were on them they were really fast.

Their band is really big and really fast with their instruments I don’t know how they practice all that when they are on the sea all the time. They must have to fit it all into their spare time. When I saw how good they were on the drums that is what I liked the most. They made such a cool beat and sound. It was an awesome experience seeing the Navy Band. They play at the theatre every year. We saw all sorts of things: Drums , Trumpets , Flutes, Banjo , Symbols and a Mini Trumpet. The Navy Band is really cool to watch and they are all really inspiring.
